Safe Critically Ill Transfer Training Course (SCITT)
Within L&SC Critical Care Network, we do our best to ensure our patients are as near to home and their family as possible but sometimes, situations arise requiring our patients to be moved to another hospital and Critical Care. This can be due to a variety of reasons, specialist management, repatriation and sometimes due to lack of capacity within the original Critical Care Unit.
Critically ill patients are extremely vulnerable and this can create a number of challenges when delivering care and treatment, in particular when transferring the critically unwell patient.
The SCITT course is a nationally recognised one day course, jointly commissioned by the North West Critical Care Networks and endorsed by the North West Deanery. It is aimed at registered clinicians who have a role or responsibility in the preparation, packaging and movement of critically ill adults from Emergency Departments, Theatres, Intensive Care Units or Coronary Care.
It is specifically aimed at NMC Registered Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs), Paramedics, Trainee Anaesthetists and Doctors (CMT level).
The SCITT programme is practical, interactive and simulation-based training. It provides the learner with the theory, knowledge and clinical skills to ensure that critical care is maintained to the highest of standards during any transfer, and any new or emerging situations will be anticipated, identified and managed appropriately.
The SCITT programme focuses on:
